International Wine Center is an Approved Program Provider of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET®), the world's premier wine education organization. IWC students can earn official WSET® credentials: Foundation Certificate, Intermediate Certificate, Advanced Certificate, and Diploma. All instructors hold the WSET® Diploma.*

The Levels
The classes are a progression, beginning with Foundation, an introductory course to wine. Intermediate Certificate, Advanced Certificate and Diploma follow. Each of these levels covers the entire world of wine including viticulture, vinification, and appellation labeling laws, as well as wine-tasting technique. The Advanced Certificate is a strict prerequisite for Diploma.

Advance payment is required for all programs. Register by telephone or FAX with American Express, VISA or MasterCard; call (212) 239-3055, or FAX (212) 239-3051. You may also send a check to International Wine Center (350 7th Ave Suite 1201, New York, NY 10001). Please note that for on-line classes, transfers to another course will incur a fee of $125 after the registration deadline.

Refunds for In-Class Courses
  • If you cancel your place before the course begins you will receive a refund of the class fee, less a 10% cancellation fee. If we have sent out the materials kit to you, you must return it, complete and unused, in order to receive full credit. Registration and shipping fees are not refundable.
  • If you cancel after the class begins, no refunds apply. However, your registration is fully transferable to another person for the same course and session, subject to qualification. If you miss a class, you are welcome to make up the class next term.


Refunds for Online Courses

Online and Home Study
Along with our classes held in New York City, we offer online and home study courses for those who do not live near International Wine Center or another WSET®-approved center, and those whose schedules make it impossible to attend classes. We provide the WSET® Intermediate Certificate course online, and the WSET® Advanced Certificate and WSET® Diploma program in a home study format. Teaching Assistant Program
Opportunities are available for selected individuals to work with and learn from our instructors by serving as teaching assistants in our Intermediate Certificate classes. Teaching assistants help set up, pour wines and clean up. Teaching assistants receive a discounted course rate. These positions, limited in number, are generally filled three months in advance of the course. Admission is on a rolling basis. Selection of teaching assistants is at the discretion of the Director of Operations. An interview is required. Spirits Certificate

The Spirits Certificate is designed to provide a thorough knowledge of spirits and liqueurs. The course covers the history, production and style of spirits of the world: Cognac, Armagnac and other brandies; Scotch, Bourbon and whiskeys; white spirits, including vodka, rum, Tequila, gin; and liqueurs and other flavored spirits. Tasting is part of every session. A one-hour examination includes 50 multiple-choice questions and a theoretical tasting note of one spirit or liqueur.

Coverage of wines and spirits of the world in considerable depth over 15 sessions. The Advanced Certificate is appropriate for those who have gone through the Intermediate Certificate level and have a good foundation of wine knowledge. It is a pre-requisite for the Diploma Course. The Intensive course is condensed into one week and because of the rapid pace we encourage students to register early and start studying prior. The examination for the Advanced Certificate includes 50 multiple-choice questions, four essay questions and a blind tasting of two wines. Successful candidates receive the WSET Advanced Certificate.*

Coverage of wines and spirits of the world in considerable depth over 15 sessions. The Advanced Certificate is appropriate for those who have gone through the Intermediate Certificate level and have a good foundation of wine knowledge. It is a pre-requisite for the Diploma Course. The Intensive course is condensed into one week and because of the rapid pace we encourage students to register early and start studying prior.
