This position will primarily entail customer service with some help in marketing & merchandising.

Mastering our inventory and assisting customers.
Ringing up customers at the register and taking phone orders.
Planning and setting up in-store tastings.
Restocking and maintaining the appearance of the shop.
    Attending trade tastings.
Research and contribute content for website, shelf talkers and eblasts.

    4-5 days / 30-40 hours per week.
Must be available nights and weekends.
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Gnarly Vines is a vibrant, adored neighborhood wine and spirits shop in Fort Greene, Brooklyn that’s been open for over 10 years.

We offer a considerably larger selection than a ’boutique’ shop but we’re much more approachable and selective than a huge superstore.

We have a strong emphasis on small production wines and spirits that are ‘sustainable or stricter’. Yet we’re not crusaders. We believe in the broad spectrum of wines and spirits from different regions and varieties, in different styles that appeal to a wide range of tastes and budgets.

To understand what drives us, you have to understand our name. To produce great wine, a vine has to suffer. Fertile vineyards produce visually beautiful, plentiful vines that result in hollow, insipid wines.  By contrast, old gnarled vines, from marginally viable agricultural regions that have weathered difficult growing conditions, grow deep, complex root systems to scrounge for whatever water and nutrients they can find. These old gnarled vines produce fewer and smaller berries, yet make some of the most compelling wines of the world. Discovering and enjoying these wines is our passion.

To say that the best wines come from gnarly vines is not an advertising slogan; it’s a fact. It’s also a reflection of our store, our philosophy and our lives. Working in a small, retail business like ours may be hard, but it’s worth the struggle.
