Petri Luukkanen, DipWSET, Instructor

A son of two educators, Petri has a natural interest in teaching. His path to teaching at International Wine Center has been colorful to say the least, including becoming an officer in the Finnish army, law school on the Arctic Circle, living in Montana and studying at Wharton business school.  This led to a long banking career in New York and London requiring frequent travel to exotic destinations where local wine and food was a common denominator.

As a lifelong wine learner Petri graduated from International Culinary Center’s (ICC) sommelier program, is a Certified Sommelier by Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), Lustau Sherry Specialist and completed his DipWSET with merit at IWC.

Petri’s passion for wine knowledge springs from the fact that it merges an agricultural product, geography, and history. Additionally, “Wine is always made in beautiful places making it a great tool to find new travel destinations – a passion of mine,” Petri explains. He is dedicated to seeking interesting wines, not just “good” wines, but if forced to pick one he could spend the rest of his life drinking, it would be Rioja.
